Dan’l Mackey Almy’s passion for fresh produce marketing has paved the way of her dynamic career in the fresh produce industry for more than 17 years. In 1995, Dan’l started her career with Standard Fruit and Vegetable Co., where she held several leadership roles including director of marketing. Following an acquisition in 2003, Dan’l served as the Vice President at Del Monte Fresh Produce, overseeing the Wal-Mart and Sam’s Club business for North America.
In 2004, Dan’l founded DMA Solutions, Inc., a creative marketing firm that has helped to bolster the image of fresh produce by differentiating fresh produce in an increasingly competitive marketplace. To keep the DMA creative wheel turning, Dan’l has brought together a team with a variety of different backgrounds, perspectives, and personalities, all who share a common commitment to quality, creativity, and passion for fresh produce. Together with their outstanding clients, who grow a full spectrum of fresh products ranging from berries to broccoli, the DMA Team stands together to support more consumption of fresh fruit and vegetable products. DMA Solutions has become a thought leader in social media marketing for the produce industry, sharing their ideas and inspirations via The Core, a blog connecting best practices in marketing with fresh produce.
Today, Dan’l plays an active role in the produce industry by speaking and participating in many industry events. She also serves as the Chairman of the United Fresh Produce Association Nutrition & Health Council and holds a seat on the Board of Directors for the association. Additionally, she serves on the Produce Marketing Association’s Foundation for Industry Talent Campaign Committee and the YottaMark, Inc. Advisory Board. Her previous honors include the 2009 Outstanding Alumni Award presented by the United Fresh Leadership Alumni Organization and recognition on the Produce Business “40 Under Forty” list in 2004. In May of 2012, recognizing her outstanding involvement and leadership in the industry, the United Fresh Produce Association honored Dan’l as the 2012 Woman in Produce.
In addition to her passion for the fresh produce industry, Dan’l has remained actively involved at Texas A&M over the years. She has served as an external advisor for NAMA as well as a “Professor for a Day” in numerous classes at Texas A&M. She has also hired Aggie interns, several of whom are now employed by her firm. She is now working with organizations on the Texas A&M University campus to help promote fresh produce, and has established the “Fresh Fund” to help sponsor student-led groups.
Dan’l currently resides in Las Colinas, Texas with her husband Drew, daughter Mackey Payton, and their dog Shelby Rae.
